Notice that this does not technically outlaw drag kings but does outlaw any cis woman who wants to cosplay as Jessica Rabbit.
I realize that of course the intent isn’t to do that, nor, if it were passed, would it be enforced that way, but it’s still fucking ridiculous and speaks to their ignorance and lack of foresight. “Flamboyant feminine persona with glamorous or exaggerated costumes” is like 90% of my wardrobe and I’m a cis woman.
technically this bill would also outlaw Dolly Parton and performers like Katy Perry and Cardi B who include lots of outlandish costumes in their concerts. like obviously these three wouldn’t be targetted because of their fame level (tho even Cardi might not be safe because. misogynoir is a thing.)
but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that a bill targetting drag and trans women performers also includes language that discourages cis women from dressing in a way that isn’t sufficiently modest and “proper”
I’m sure someone’s already mentioned it but…..this actually sounds like something that Dolly should be told about, because she could rally the entire country around how dumb this is and have the ability to take the heat.
